I got most of you on mystery picture number one! Only one person looked at the picture and figured out what it really was. I liked Lucy’s spider eggs guess, and Donna’s corn on the cob, but not sure I want to take that spider egg photo or eat that corn on the cob!! Bees was a fun guess from Betty. And so was Peggy’s cactus guess. I can see where she might think that.We had guesses of grapes and cherries – some frozen. Frozen grapes are yummy when you’re hot in the summertime. And Gin changed it up a bit to guess mulberry.
But the most popular guess was gooseberries. Mary even gave us the scientific name, Ribe uva-crispa. I had to google that to find out what she was guessing. All the gooseberry guesses were wrong, but thinking about gooseberries took some people down a memory lane. And I strolled along with them.
I have never seen gooseberries on the vine or bush, but I did have the opportunity to try one once. Someone must have given Mom some. She warned me before I put it in my mouth to expect it to be tart. I think sour might be the more operative word. Very sour. That’s when they aren’t quite ripe. Mom said they had gooseberry bushes when she was a child and that she and the neighborhood kids would dare one another to eat one of the green gooseberries. Then they’d see who could keep from squinting. However, with enough sugar I think they made great gooseberry pies or jelly.
But the mystery picture wasn’t a gooseberry. It was, as Amy correctly guessed, an unripe wild raspberry. Good eye, Amy. In a week or two, those berries will start turning black and they will be so sweet that instead of squinting, you do a little floating. Yum! The trouble is, the deer like them too so sometimes they go berry picking ahead of me and pick the bushes clean.
And if you can gather enough of the little raspberries (wild ones are generally about the size of the tip of your little finger) and if you can keep from eating them all, you can freeze a pint or two to add to your blackberries when you’re making jam. Makes the jam so much sweeter.
Well, now that you know more about the berries than you ever wanted to, you can try to guess the new mystery puzzle. This may be one you all get and then I’ll have to pull out the heavy artillery for the picture on Wednesday. LOL. I’ve got a doozy waiting in the wings, but I’m trying to decide if it’s fair for me to use it. But then, sometimes all is fair in love and war and mystery photo contests!
All of you who guessed got an entry in the drawing for a copy of one of my books. I’ll pick three winners on June 12th. You get a new entry each time you make a guess on a new mystery photo. You must be 18 to enter, but you can let your kids help you guess. 🙂 So come on and make a guess or be honest like Evelyn and just say “I don’t know.” She got an entry in the drawing too.
Thanks so much for playing my mystery photo game and as always, for reading.
P.S. Not sure how long it will last, but my 1st Hidden Springs mystery, Murder at the Courthouse, is on special e-book sale for 99 cents. (Always check your prices before you download to be sure you’re getting the bargain you want.) But if you e-read, this is a fun deal for you for a very limited time. Check it out on Amazon Kindle. Also available at other e-book sellers. Might be gone later today or tomorrow. I didn’t know it was going on sale until I saw it on BookBub, so have no idea when the price will go back up.

How about a carved ebony wood bracelet?
Author
That sounds really pretty, Paula, and shows some great imagination. I love your answer. I’m getting ready to post the rest of mystery picture 2. I think you’re going to be surprised.
Bicycle tire or…..
Some sort of “container” with the metal being the bottom?
Author
Tire has been the popular guess with bike tire the tire of choice, Sandy. In a few minutes I’m going to post the “rest of the picture.” Then you might be surprised.
an old tire maybe?
Author
Cheryl, a lot of the people guessing agree with you. We’ll see on Wednesday if I agree with all of you or if I spring a surprise. Hope you are enjoying playing the mystery photo game. I better start trying to be mysterious with a new picture!
I am going to guess that it is a bicycle tire!
Author
Bike tire is a very popular guess, Laura. Guess we’ll see tomorrow night if it’s a good guess. Thanks for stopping by to play my mystery photo game. Hope you had fun making a guess.
I am going to guess brake pad.
Author
That is a very interesting guess, Linda. You must be the kind of woman who works on her own cars. I have to be honest and admit that I have no idea what a brake pad looks like. Oops, I guess I just let you know your guess isn’t it. But then it’s almost Wednesday when the rest of the picture will be revealed.
A bicycle tire seems obvious and since you are a little tricky at times I’m going to say an oreo cookie! Thanks for the challenge.
Author
Me, tricky? Surely you jest, Linda. LOL. The whole game is me trying to be tricky. And I’m doing better this round that I have some other times I’ve played the mystery photo game with you all. That’s not to say I didn’t take a picture of an oreo cookie and do my best to make it look like a tire. That could have happened. Or maybe I look a picture of a tire and made it look like an oreo cookie. Wednesday you will know if I was tricky or not.
It looks like a bicycle tire to me.

And you could be right, Pam. Or you could be wrong. If you are right or wrong, you’re going to have plenty of company. Tire is the popular guess right now.
Chocolate layer cake, with white layer of frosting

You came back for another guess, Lois. You’re not the first to think cake. I’m going to have to look at this picture again. 🙂

Gwen, Ola and Cheryl, a tire seems to be a popular guess. An old tire seems to be a reasonable guess, and it could be right. We’ll see on Wednesday. Guess I’d better be hunting mystery picture number 3.
Amy, I like the idea of getting the bike out and taking a ride, but it’s been so long since I’ve been bike riding, I’d probably have some sore muscles. 🙂
Mary and Evelyn, a fabric covered button is a great guess. I covered a few of those buttons back when I did more sewing. My sewing machine has been sorely neglected for a number of years now. But once upon a time, I actually made my sister’s wedding dress and it must have had a hundred of those little covered buttons. Of course, I’m not saying you’re right. Or wrong. You’ll have to wait and see.
It looks like a crocheted hat (beret). Otherwise, it’s a part of a poodle on a poodle skirt.

Wow! Nice guesses, Betty. Not saying they’re right, but they are certainly imaginative. Thanks for playing my mystery photo game and you never know. You could have solved the mystery. Maybe.
