Ready? Set. Play. A New Mystery Photo Game

No object is mysterious. The mystery is your eye. ~Elizabeth Bowen

Are you ready for a little fun? So how about a new mystery photo game? I’ve been looking at everything with narrowed eyes this week while wondering if I could make this or that look mysterious. Even took a picture of Frankie’s paw today. Enlarged the picture, cropped it, and deleted it. Looked like a dogs paw no matter when I did to it. This photo may be the same. Well, you can be pretty sure it’s not Frankie’s paw. Pretty sure. 🙂

We’ve had fun with mystery photo games in the past. You can search through the archives with the clue words mystery photo or mystery picture and find some of them. Sometimes you readers are too smart for me and guess the photo right away and sometimes I stump most of you. My most successful mystery photo in the past is this one. I don’t think I would have guessed it if I’d been the one guessing instead of the one trying to be mysterious. I had no idea cedar needles looked like they were plaited.

The picture was a cedar tree which is common around where I live but only one person guessed it. I think she must have cheated somehow. LOL. Then again, she was a biology teacher.

Other pictures I’ve tried have hardly tricked anybody. Even those I sometimes thought were very mysterious. I have no idea whether this one I just posted up top will be hard to guess or not, but there it is awaiting your guesses.

Remember, it’s more fun if you leave your guess before you read everybody else’s guesses. And of course, there are prizes. A game has to have prizes, doesn’t it? And since it’s me giving the prizes and I happen to have some boxes of books in my basement, the prizes are guess what. Right. One of my books!!

Each Saturday while we’re playing this game for the next three weeks, I’ll pick one winner each of the first two weeks and two winners the last week. Each time you guess on a new mystery photo you’ll get another entry into the drawing (one entry per new mystery picture) and your name will stay in my drawing hat until the game is over at midnight EST on July 27, 2018. So that will be six mystery photos. I better be looking at things with an eye for mystery to come up with that many pictures. To enter just leave your guess in a comment here. The guess doesn’t have to be right and if you don’t want to guess, you can simply say, “I don’t know what it is but I still want to be in the drawing for a book.” The winners, chosen by random drawing, will get their choice of one of my books. My new release, River to Redemption, can be a choice. By the way, reviews are being posted and so far readers seem to like the story set in Springfield, Kentucky. That has me smiling as I work on edits for next summer’s release, a new Shaker novel, The Refuge.

Oh yeah, one more pesky rule about the contest game. You must be at least eighteen to enter the drawing, but feel free to get help with your guesses from your kids or grandkids if you want. Kids sometimes have the freshest eyes.

So ready, set, guess. I’m thinking this might be an easy one, but if you all guess it, I’ll work hard to be more mysterious on Wednesday night.

As always, thanks for reading.

One more note:

  1. My first thought was that you were trying to make perogies and couldn’t get your dough shaped in nice circles. Use the sharp edge of a tin can. That’ll make your perogies look nice and even!

But I figured you likely weren’t making perogies so my next idea is a close up of a print on fabric but then the pattern should be more uniform.

So, I like the idea of butterfly wings. I’d just like to know what kind of butterfly.

  2. Very mysterious ! It sort of looks like green fingernails but where are the fingers ? It reminds me of lily pads but pond water isn’t black….so I really don’t know !!

I love your imagined guess, Nancy, of those green fingernails. Yes, where are the fingers. I’m ready to right a weird scary story now about those green fingernails without fingers. LOL. Lily pads sound safer, more like butterflies .

  3. I really have no idea. At first I thought it might be Frankie’s leg…the colors are about right. But since you’ve been trying to capture butterfly pictures lately, and seeing the other posts, I agree…it’s a butterfly wing.

  4. Looks like ‘spots’ on a butterfly wing.
I’m sure there must be a proper name for those spots…..guess I should try find out.
