Loving Berries – Straw and Black

I love berries. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries, anything with an ‘errie’ in it! ~Jordin Sparks

I’m late to the mystery photo game tonight because the kids came out to go blackberry picking tonight. It’s been a very disappointing blackberry season. After the abundance of wild raspberries, I really thought the blackberries would be just as good or better. I mean it rained every day for a month. That should be plenty of water, right? But maybe it was too much water. Maybe the bees didn’t get to do their job because of the rain. Whatever the reason, the berries aren’t plentiful and some of those on the wild vines over along the edges of the hay fields are being picked by varmints, I think. Deer like berries and will nibble them off the vines. You can see where they mash down the weeds to get to them. And you can find more berries hidden under leaves or too high for the deer to easily reach. But we did pick a few. Maybe enough for a few jars of jam or maybe a couple of cobblers.

We sprayed bug spray and more bug spray on the kids and one of them still brought home a leg and foot full of teeny tiny ticks. They were so small I could barely see them, but we got out some duct tape to lift them off her. Bet you didn’t know that was a use for duct tape. Sometimes I think people use duct tape for everything except on ducts. I think wild blackberry picking is over for this summer and we will hope for more next year and fewer ticks. Especially those so small you need a magnifying glass to see them. So no worries about me doing a mystery photo of those.

Sunday’s mystery photo turned out to be more mysterious than I thought it would be. Many of you were on the right track but nobody got it exactly right. Amy was maybe the closest with her some kind of berry although April also said close up of fruit. Several of you guessed cucumbers and/or pickles. A good guess. Pineapple was a popular guess. I smiled at Marji’s chubby caterpillar guess and admired Emily’s kitchen sponge guess. That took imagination. Betty said pistachio waldorf salad. An interesting guess that was echoed on a comment on Facebook. I did love all the guesses and I have to admit, I’m always glad when I trick you and you don’t all get the right answer.

The mystery photo was a green strawberry. Was it cheating to not wait for the strawberry to get ripe? Well, all is fair in love and war and mystery photo games!!

So up top is mystery picture number four. It’s not a picture of anything exotic. Most, if not all of you, see something like it on a regular basis. Now that’s enough clue. You probably already know that it is. I did pick winner number one last Friday. I’ve already sent Patty her book. She wanted River to Redemption. I’ll pick winner number 2 on Friday and then 2 more winners on Friday the 27th. Remember each time you guess on a new mystery photo, you get your name in the drawing hat again to give you extra chances to win. You do have to be at least 18 years old to enter. Then all you have to do is join in the fun and take an imaginative stab at what in the world is that.

Thanks for reading. Hope you are having fun playing my mystery photo game. I promise I have one of the hardest ones ever waiting in the wings. That may mean you will all get it on first guess. Sigh. But still fun. 🙂

More great ideas of what the mystery photo might be.

Virginia & Judith, you agree on jello. That has been a guess several have made, but eggs is a first, Virginia. Do you think you might turn out to be the only one right. Last time there was only one close to right. Could happen again.

Betty, bacon has been the popular guess, but you’re the first one to be cooking it. I have a great microwave bacon cooker. Love it.

Paula, zooming in and out could help, but guess it just made you hungry for chocolate something. A chocolate cream pie sounds good. My mom could make the best ones.

Sherri, here we are with bacon again. Either several of you are going to be right or just as many are going to be wrong.

Linda, I’ve been picking blackberries, so you could be right. But it’s sort of brown for a blackberry, isn’t it? 🙂

Melanie, now, that’s a first guess. Candle. But a good guess. Not saying you’re right, but it is a good guess. Loved talking with you and Kenny yesterday. Happy continued traveling.

Una, I like your guess. Gummy worms or licorice. I can see that. But sometimes we see what’s not really there.

Lucy, you’ve used your imagination and come up with a guess nobody else has. It’s a good one too. A ridged skillet. The kind you might use to cook bacon. So that can go with all those bacon guesses. 🙂

  2. I have no idea! But I am going to guess that it is wood burning in a fireplace! It’s time for me to get to bed!

  3. I squinted my eyes, I zoomed in and I zoomed out! The only thing I could think of was Chocolate something… maybe pudding or icing. Maybe I’m hungry.

Darlene, gravy does go good on mashed potatoes and maybe I took a fork and made ridges. Could have happened.

Lillian, you’re not the only one to think strawberry jelly or jam. That would go good with Connie Lee’s pancakes.

Linda, bacon is becoming a popular guess. Interesting. Very interesting. But right? Well, we have to wait for the “rest of the picture” on Sunday for that answer.

Birdie, I do have a bee hive in a tree down on my lane, but I probably wouldn’t be brave enough to try to steal their honey. But I like your guess and I could have found a picture of a honeycomb somewhere.

Connie, I’m like your husband. Love those bacon and tomato sandwiches although we usually have them for dinner. I had them for my son and his family last night. Had to cook a lot of bacon. So perhaps your guess could be right. Perhaps. We shall see.

More great imaginative guesses, guys. Love it.

Faith, both guesses were good, but gravy on roast beef does sound good. What’s for supper, right?

Loretta, bundt cakes are so pretty, aren’t they? And with those glazes on them, they are yummy. Maybe we’ll have cake for dessert.

Connie, now we’re talking breakfast with those pancakes. Some of my grandkids love pancakes for breakfast. When I was a kid, we had pancakes for supper sometimes. Mom made a brown sugar syrup for them. With my sweet tooth, that was a favorite meal!

Ola, I like your guess. You’ve gotten away from the food and who knows? You might be right. Maybe. Maybe not. We shall see on Sunday.

Perrianne, I love Hershey bars and it’s a shame to let one melt. But when that has happened to me, I’ve stuck them in the freezer for a while. You have to save that chocolate. So maybe I did take a picture first. Maybe.

  6. Since my husband likes bacon tomato sandwiches, I’m fixing bacon almost every morning…therefore, I’m guessing the mystery photo is bacon…???? :o)

  7. These are fun to look at, but my imagination is lacking when it comes to guessing !!! My first thought was gravy and mashed potatoes, but too many ridges . At least my brain gets a workout thinking!! Lol
