“The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes.”
― Arthur Conan Doyle
A new book ready to be released means it’s Mystery Photo time. I’ve been trying hard to see things in a new light so that I can somehow make them very mysterious for you. 🙂 But everything I try, I decide you’ll guess right away. While I don’t mind some of you figuring out my mysteries, it’s no fun for me if all of you figure out my mystery photos. But you are an observant bunch, perhaps made even more observant by playing my Mystery Photo games. I’m stealing a little credit anyway.
Some of you are going to think this is funny. I just went to the picture file where I have kept my mystery photos from the past along with the original photo that solves the mystery. I couldn’t match them all up. Some of them I had no idea what they were. True mysteries to me. Makes me wonder if I should replay some of those mysteries. But first I’d have to figure out what they were myself, wouldn’t I? A mystery game where the mystery never get solved wouldn’t be much fun.
Anyway, I’m taking the plunge into a new game with the picture above. You may all recognize what it is right away. And if so, I’ll simply congratulate you for your keen mystery solving skills while I try harder to trick you with the mystery picture on my next post. I’ll be out there or in here taking pictures of everything to see what I can make mysterious. LOL.
Oh, yeah, and there will be book prizes. We’ll play the mystery photo game for a couple of weeks. Each time you guess (or solve) a new mystery photo or simply say “I don’t know,” you’ll get an entry in the drawing. I’ll draw for the winners (three of you) and contact you by e-mail as well as announce the winners here on my blog post on Sunday, May 5th. Winners will get their choice of one of my books which could be my upcoming release, The Refuge, if that’s the winner’s choice. The Refuge is going to be out there for readers any day now. I’ll throw in a grab bag book by a different author to sweeten the pot. You must be at least 18 years old to enter. But you can let your kids help you guess. 🙂
I’m also sending out a newsletter with a prize chance this week too. A fun prize that’s very Shakerish. So if you haven’t signed up for my newsletter yet, now would be a good time. The sign-up form is in the margin here on my website.
Happy Easter
Here in Kentucky we had a beautiful Easter day after a couple of pretty crummy cold and rainy days. I’m thinking Saturday was extra crummy since my grandkids were all here and it’s more fun when we can enjoy the spring sunshine outside. We did have an Easter egg hunt (the youngest kids hunted) but they hunted fast to get back inside. My son, granddaughter and I hid them pretty fast in a misty rain too. LOL.
But rain or shine, family home for Easter is great. And rain or shine, gathering with my church family on Resurrection Sunday is always a blessing. Hope your Easter weekend was a blessed one too.
As always, thanks for reading. I’ll look forward to your guesses – as long as they aren’t all right. 🙂

I think it looks like a dandelion that someone has just made a wish on. Kinda like the one my middle son had me to make a wish on this weekend.
Hi Ann,
It is part of a sunflower, of course! 🙂

Some more great guesses, everyone. Love it when a variety comes in. That means you are using your keen imagination eye. If there is such a thing. I’m needing there to be to figure out what’s next in my story. It’s not a murder mystery so it doesn’t help to say just let the character find a body. LOL.
But on to the guesses. Marji, you joined in with some others thinking dandelion. There are certainly plenty of dandelions around. So we’ll see if she’s right. Or wrong.
Betty W., I love how you covered all the bases with plenty of guesses. Good ones, all, but only one can be right. You’ll have to wait until Wednesday to see if any of yours is the right one.
Nancy, you’ve joined in with some others on the cat whiskers, but why just guess one thing when you can improve your chances of being right with two more guesses.
Lois, I’m going to go back and look at that picture to see the bird sitting in weeds. Could be. 🙂 Fun guess.
Amy, so glad you enjoy playing my mystery photo games. I’m already worried about finding the next picture. It’s hard to keep you guys guessing.
Connie, now this is a guess to make my smile. How did you ever figure it out? And now you’ll have to wait until Wednesday to see if you figured it out right. 🙂
It reminds me of a tick egg nest. Boy, do I ever know to stay away from those. One year our family was walking behind my in-laws’ house near their pond and stepped in or near one and everyone came home with deerticks that year. Let’s just say everyone got tick checked! 😅

A tick egg nest? That doesn’t sound like a place I want to step, Jill. But last year one of my granddaughters must have kept stepping in one while we were blackberry picking. She came home with dozens of teeny ticks on her. It was awful. Off doesn’t seem to repel ticks these days.
Maybe it could be some of Frankie’s wet hair after being on a rainy morning walk with you, ha!
I don’t know what this is, but it looks like part of a plant. I always enjoy your mystery photo games.
I think it is some kind of bird sitting among The weeds or reeds
This is challenging ! It looks like cat whiskers or maybe some kind of plant ….or a feather ? Can’t wait for the big reveal .
Plucked wild turkey feathers
Milkweed pod opening or spinning yarn?
I’m guessing the picture is of a dandelion flower that has gone to seed

Some great guesses so far. Not saying any are right or if none are right. Since you didn’t all guess the same thing, you can be sure that they aren’t all right. 🙂
Suzanne and Margaret, cat whiskers is a very good guess. Not saying you’re right. Just that you could be or could not be. Of course, Margaret, you’re wobbling on your guess and hedging your bets with a plant secondary guess.
Sandi and Roma, you’re seeing dandelions. For sure you can see them scattered through the grass this time of the year. But you’ll have to wait to see if you’re right. Maybe. Maybe not.
Emily, bird feathers is a very good guess. And who knows? Maybe even a right guess.
Pam, that certainly could be some porcupine quills. I’ll have to back up quick it said creature gets upset with me, or so I’ve heard.
Darlene, it’s a lot easier to guess when you’ve see the original picture. LOL. But thanks for joining in with the fun.
All of you get an entry into the contest.
I really don’t have a clue. I keep rotating it in my mind. It could be plant roots of some kind, but I don’t think so. Rotating it more, it could be some kind of plant that seems to be drying out.
I like looking at these ,but it’s just not up my alley to figure these out. I’ll be looking forward to getting the answer .😊
A dandelion that has gone to seed?
Bird feathers? Happy Easter, Ann! 😊Jesus Christ is Risen! 🎉John 17-21🎉
I can’t decide if it’s a close up of cat’s whiskers, or some sort of plant… 🙂
Porcupine quills
It looks to me like a magnified closeup of dandelion fluff!
My guess is that the mystery photo in this post is part of a cat’s head with whiskers sticking out. I like guessing games, so this is right up my line.
