About ten years ago a neighbor’s dog decided our garage was the perfect place to have puppies. The granddaughters had great fun with the puppies before I found a way to give them all away. I guess since they were in my garage they became my puppies. They were very cute. But it wasn’t something I wanted repeated every year or twice a year. The mama dog did stop having pups and so years went by without puppies for the grandgirls to play with. Then my oldest granddaughter here adopted a dog from a county humane shelter. They didn’t bother telling her that the dog could be going to have pups since she’d been picked up as a stray along with four other dogs, some males. But sure enough, not many weeks later it became evident that pups were on the way. My granddaughter who hopes to be a vet someday suddenly had a mama dog and six little pups. So it was fun with puppies time again. The puppies have all found homes and are simply waiting to be old enough to go to those new places. Meanwhile, sometimes the girls have a puppy party out in the yard just the same as they did back years ago when I had puppies in my yard.

Puppies are cute. My last three dogs have been past the puppy stage when I got them. Oscar and Frankie were both strays that we thought might be a year old. Actually they were both about 8 or 9 months old since they grew a lot more after we got them. And then Marley was 8 years old when I got him. But I have had puppies and once I picked a puppy out of a little of 12 or 13 and got a great dog.

Have you ever had a puppy of your own? Maybe were able to pick your favorite out of a litter of pups?

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy puppy pictures. Sunday I’ll start a giveaway game for my book, An Appalachian Summer, that releases next Tuesday, June 30th. Maybe I’ll come up with some mystery pictures. That’s always fun.

  1. I love your dogs and the ones in the pictures are so cute! But, unfortunately for me, the names Oscar and Frankie bring back sad/bad memories for me! Sorry! Oscar was my ex-husband and Frankie is my brother who is abusive towards me in many different ways because he has always disliked me for some unknown reason. My ex was also abusive, so, as I’ve said, the names, Frankie and Oscar bring up bad memories. BUT, only the names, not the dogs! The dogs are adorable and I love your walks with them and pictures of them!

Well, you just need to name them something new. Frankie can be Blackie to you and dear Oscar can be Sweetie. So just substitute those names to make things sound better. I’m so sorry you’ve had bad experiences with your family. That’s sad. It’s good you’ve found a way to move on past that to make a better life for yourself.

  2. Yes about 8 months ago we saw an ad in the paper for chihuahuas, So my husband went and brought home a flea smelly puppy we called D.O.G well that wonderful fun excited Tom Sawyer chihuahua that has the pattern of a small cow on him turned 1 on Thursday. At first I couldn’t believe how much he chewed up and I thought how am I going to raise this one, He is just so loving still loves to investigate on his own outside but if you put a leash on him he thinks he did something wrong. See we live in a rural area at the top of a hill and there is a farm we can see but is far from us. So the pups just get to run as there is no one around. Most of them that we have had just stay right next to me and do their thing close none take off but he loves to look up at the sky at the birds that fly over and goes and does his thing. We just wouldn’t let him go for anything he and his sister are so close even though she was 4 when he came into the house.

It’s so fun to have dogs that really like one another. I used to have a big chocolate lab that was registered as Coffee W. Crutcher. We called him Dub. He wouldn’t answer to any of those other names. We got him after two other owners had him and gave him up. At the time we had more than one dog and all the neighbors’ dogs stayed in our yard half the time. But I used to say that if we didn’t have those other dogs, I’d have to get Dub a dog to keep him happy. On the other hand, Oscar, my lab/chow mix (I think), was a rescue dog who tolerated other dogs but had no affection for them. Frankie loves other dogs and Marley loves Frankie. Sounds as if you have some treasured doggie friends, Peggy.

  4. They are adorable but I’m not a dog person. I know just shoot me as everyone else seems to be. I like them as long as they belong to someone else.

That’s fine, Lucy. There are plenty of us other dog lovers to count. We can’t all like the same things, but I must have been born a dog lover since I can’t remember not wanting to have a dog of my own. And that’s after I was bitten by various dogs several times when I was a little girl. Didn’t deter me. 🙂

Puppies can be a challenge, Melissa. I have to admit that a teenage Frankie was enough of a challenge. Not sure I could have made it through puppyhood with him too. LOL. I still have chew marks on the deck railings.

  5. Thanks so much for these adorable puppy pics,Ann! Yes,please; a mystery photo contest would be such fun! 💜Psalm 20💜
