“The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes.” ― Arthur Conan Doyle
I’m throwing down a challenge again to all of you who like to play my mystery photo game. I’ve been taking pictures and trying to think mysteriously about this or that common thing and I am finally ready to see if I can trick you on some pictures. Probably not. You all are great at figuring out my pictures – most of the time. But some of my pictures in past mystery photo games have tricked almost all of you. That’s my goal. I don’t think this one will be the one to do that, but a person has to start somewhere.
I just looked through my file of former mystery photos and a couple of them, I had no idea which photo they matched up with. The mystery game has tricked me in those cases! But I do remember one of my more successful closeup pictures that did fool you all. Well, one family member claimed to know what it was, but she didn’t put it in writing on my blog post to prove it. 🙂
Here is the mystery photo that tricked all who guessed. I was like all of them. I never knew cedar looked like that until I took the picture and zoomed in on it. I grew up with cedar trees all around. My dad tried to keep them off his farm by chopping them down with his axe. They grew back in a hurry to claim the victory. There are plenty of cedars still around. Certain kinds make good fence posts. They make good shelter for birds in stormy weather. They have a Christmas scent when you bring them in the house in December. And they make perfect mystery photos. Would you have been able to solve that mystery photo?
We’ve had fun with the game a few times. It does strain my brain to come up with photos with enough mystery to have you thinking. Not sure I was successful this time, but we will see. If you all get this one, then I’m pretty sure the next one will be harder. I’m going to attempt to come up with six mystery photos, including the one up top. At the end of the game, I’ll pick two winners for a choice of one of my books. The deadline to enter will be July 30, 2021 and I’ll contact the winners by email after I pick them in a random drawing. As always you must be at least 18 years old to enter. Also you will get an additional entry by posting a guess on each new mystery photo I post. Remember, the game is more fun if you try to figure out what it is and guess before you read the comments and guesses of the others who play. But whether you win or not, it is still fun to exercise our imaginations and do some mystery photo guessing.
The first photo to guess is up top. I just know it’s going to be a colossal failure and all of you will know what it is. Well, maybe one of you will guess wrong just to encourage me to go find some more mysteries.
So what’s your guess on Mystery Photo #1?
One thing sure, it was no mystery that Tansy Calhoun loved books.

It looks like you are looking down into the edge of a pan and something is simmering, possibly homemade jam.

Ola, you’re joining in with the breakfast crew in thinking pancakes and waffles. I’ll tell you this much. You’re right that it’s something to eat. 🙂
Roxana and Lauren – Thanks for joining in with my mystery photo fun. Pizza crust. I did have some pizza not long ago and I do like the thick crust. So could be you’re both right or then again, maybe not. The reveal of the rest of the picture is coming Wednesday night.
It looks like a pizza crust.
The edge of a pizza crust.
I guess it’s the edge of a pancake.

More and more guesses. Thanks to all of you who are playing my game. You’re putting the pressure on me to come up with pictures you can guess. Right of wrong. The guess still gets you an entry in my book giveaway and more important, I hope it’s as fun for you as it is for me. Obviously you aren’t all right since you haven’t all guessed the same thing, but breakfast does seem to be ruling.
Betty, Birdie, and Lucy – I’m going to come have breakfast with you all if you make waffles like this with lots of syrup. And Lucy is going to put blueberries in them too or maybe on them. I don’t have a waffle iron. Maybe I should get me one. Or maybe not. If I were to eat waffles all the time, I might end up waddling instead of walking. 🙂
Sue, Suzanne and Donna Jean – I’ll have to come to a backyard grilling meal with you all. Grilled hamburgers are the best. We’ll invite Carol along too with her grilled hot dog. Donna, you’re going to do the steak. I am no good at grilling steak or really grilling anything. I bought a little charcoal grill a couple of years ago and last year tried to grill some hot dogs on it. Seems my charcoal had gotten old or damp or whatever but would not light. We tried everything and finally built a fire with wood. Needless to say, I should have grilled the hot dogs in the oven. That doesn’t mean your grilled meat isn’t right. Just that if it is, somebody else was doing the grilling. 🙂
Connie – you are back at breakfast with the pancake with berry topping. All this talk of pancakes and waffles has me hungry.
Joyce, you have a new perspective. I like it. I love a pretty plate to fancy up a dinner. So maybe I took a picture of one. Maybe.
Angela, you were thinking about grilling with some of the others but then decided maybe we’d make some strawberry or raspberry jelly instead. That could happen. We’ll see on Wednesday who is right.

Love all your guesses. Glad you enjoy pondering what the mystery puzzle might be.
Paula – a honeybun sounds good right now. I’m so glad you enjoy the mystery photo game and like taking a stab at what it might be. Not saying it isn’t a honeybun, but not admitting it is yet either. You’ll have to wait until Wednesday night to see.
Lee – a greasy hamburger doesn’t sound quite as good as Paula’s honeybun, but who knows? You might be right instead of her or it could be you’re both wrong. 🙂
Nancy – here we go back to something sweet and yummy. I have been known to make cinnamon rolls with raisins. So who knows? I might have taken a picture of one.
Hope – raspberries have been in my picking bucket this summer. Love them and they do make a yummy jam. I’m so glad you enjoy the mystery photo game. I just hope I can come up with some more mystery photos.
Mary – Nice of you to take a stab at what the photo might be. The tomatoes are getting ripe in the garden, so you could be right. Maybe. Maybe not.
Vicki – I love a waffle with lots of syrup and maybe some fruit on top. Nothing much better than that. So the question is did I take a picture of one before I started chowing down?
Briana – You and Mary are thinking along the same line with the tomatoes. While all these sweet things others have been mentioning are good, a freshly sliced tomato is hard to beat. I have been known to take pictures of tomatoes. So we shall see if I did this time.
Adriann – The breakfast sweets seem to be ruling in this game or at least with the guesses. My son-in-law loves blueberry pancakes. I made him some last time he was here. Yum. Glad you like exercising your imagination to come up with what the mystery photo might be. Right or wrong, the brain gets a work out either way.
Amy – all these mentions of breakfast foods are making me hungry too. I love breakfast. I think it’s my favorite meal although I’m usually pretty boring with it and just eat toast and cereal. But a slice or two of bacon is always good. I did use a picture of bacon once for a mystery photo that fooled some people. Could be, I tried that again.
Carol – Hot dogs are better grilled than any other way. I like mine well grilled too. And while I probably won’t fool all of you with this mystery photo, I have fooled some of you. You’ll have to wait until you see the rest of the photo before you know if you’re one of those. 🙂
A blueberry waffle with maple syrup. 🤣
