Mystery Plus Imagination Equals Fun

“Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man’s desire to understand.” – Neil Armstrong.

I had fun reading all your guesses for Sunday’s mystery photo. Seems food ruled the day and actually food was a sort of right guess. But the photo wasn’t pancakes or waffles with blueberries and strawberries, but after reading your guesses, I was ready to head for Waffle House and attack some waffles. Then we had honey buns and pizza. Some of you were ready to grill out with hamburgers, hot dogs and steak. Mary and Briana stuck with the healthier foods and said a tomato slice. We just ate our first tomato off our plants tonight for supper, but I didn’t take a picture. Nothing like a homegrown tomato. Our tomato slices went real well with that bacon Amy guessed. Love a bacon and tomato sandwich.

There was only one guess that wasn’t food and Joyce guessed a design on a plate or bowl to maybe put some of that food in. We were having a party with all that great food. A breakfast party does sound fun.

But I didn’t fool everybody. Hope was very close with her raspberries for canning and Angela was right there with her raspberries cooking for jelly. It’s jam not jelly, but that’s definitely close enough. Way to go, ladies. You must have cooked up some jam or jelly in your time. So here’s a replay of Sunday’s mystery photo along with the rest of the picture. The jam is just beginning to boil up to the top of the pan before it settles back down to make some jam. Sometimes I have my kettle too full and I have to keep stirring it down to keep it from boiling over. Or I swipe some butter around the top of the pan. That nearly always works.

I learned my jam making skills from my mother. The kettle was my mother’s too. It’s just no telling how much jam and other things for canning have been cooked in that kettle. Pears and apples for canning. Green tomato or red tomato relish. Pickles. Green beans. Corn. All sorts of jams and preserves. I wish I had asked her where she got the kettle. So many things I wish I had asked her, but I’m glad she did share her canning and preserving skills with me.

So now it’s time for mystery picture number 2. I’ve promised six, but I’m still searching for three of those mysteries.

I think this one might be hard, but sometimes I’ve thought that in the past and you all guess it without a stumble. So, we shall see if I’ve been mysterious enough this time.

Remember if you leave a guess in a comment you will get an entry into a drawing for your choice of one of my books and I might throw in a grab bag book to go along with it. Two winners will be chosen by random drawing. Deadline to enter is midnight EST July 30, 2021.

I appreciate some of you saying you enjoy my mystery photo game. It’s always fun for me. Especially when you all have fun guessing. And all right, I’ll admit it. When you don’t all guess it right. 🙂

So what is your guess on Mystery Photo 2?

Birdie, you’re covering the bases with the popular egg yolk guess and flower guess. I do love a hibiscus bloom, don’t you?

Ana – I like a person who just comes out and admits that they don’t see anything except two blobs of yellow. But your “no clue” still gets you an entry in the drawing for a book.

Suzanne – Flowers have been a popular guess. Either several of you will be right or several of you will be wrong. The big reveal of the rest of the picture will be Sunday night. I have one more mystery picture waiting in line. After that I’m going to have to get inventive for the next three I’ve promised.

Lisa – I love the idea of lemons on a tree. Or any fruit on a tree. Right now I don’t have any fruit trees except one cherry tree that’s a year old and not growing the way I’d like it to. But that doesn’t meant I couldn’t have taken a picture of a lemon tree somewhere else. So who knows?

Angela – I did have some pansies this spring and they were pretty for a long time. I do like a cute little pansy. I even had some purple ones. I even took some pictures of them. So, sounds as though the clues are lining up for your guess, but we’ll have to wait until Sunday to know if the clues are leading to the right answer.

April – So many of you have said egg yolks, I’m about ready to go make a chocolate pie. Or maybe a lemon pie. That was I can use the lemons some of the others are seeing. Fun that you dropped by to guess on my mystery photo.

Love the guesses. Keep them coming.

Amy – you are joining in with those who think it might be a flower, or a flower’s pollen anyway. As for the jam cooking picture, maybe my kettle didn’t look like the kettle you’ve seen used for jam making. But it is fun to make your own homemade jam or jelly. I haven’t done jelly often although my husband would be happy if I did. He doesn’t like the blackberry seeds. My mother took pity on him once and made jelly for him. 🙂

Marji – I do love daisies and have often posted pictures of them on Facebook. Could be I zoomed in on one of those pictures to let it be a mystery photo. Maybe. Maybe not. We’ll see on Sunday.

Birdie and Janice – you two are both joining in with the egg yolk guesses. Thanks for adding a fork for me to beat them with, Janice. A lot of recipes call for “beaten” eggs. So you could be right on top of it.

Connie Lee – love your guess. You’re thinking out of the box. And I have seen those insect eggs on a leaf and who knows? With the way I’ll take pictures of anything, I might have taken a picture of that with my eye on a mystery photo. You never know.

Linda – I do like to use butterflies in my mystery photos. I’ve done it in the past and not managed to fool very many of you. Could be, I did that again and so far you’re the only one to see it right. Then again, you might be the one seeing it wrong. 🙂

Ola – I’m glad you got away from eggs and are seeing plums. The question is, did I see plums?
