“What we could consider magic, may just be science that we don’t understand yet.” ― Patricia Robin Woodruff
You all have been wonderful playing my mystery game this time. This is the last mystery picture for this game, but you can be sure that for weeks now, every picture I take or see, I’ll be assessing it as to whether it might make a mystery photo for a future game.
So far, I’ve had a pretty good run on this game with several stumpers. That’s what I try for. I don’t care if I trick you all into seeing something it’s not, but I do like you making a few different guesses that can open my eyes to new ways to look at things. As I told one of you in the comments, I would be the worst at this game if I was the one trying to figure out the mystery photo. I’ve seen a few of these kind of challenges in magazines and I always turn to the answer before I figure out what it is. But I made all of you wait for the answer.
Sunday’s puzzler did stump almost all of you. You did get that it was some kind of mechanical something. Connie Rae made me smile with her “thing a ma jig.” I’ve called things that at times. It’s a universal name for the piece of machinery that usually needs fixing or replacing. It was fun seeing those of you who are seamstresses – that’s Una, Lavon and Sherri – all thinking it was a bobbin case. I’ve loaded many a bobbin in my sewing machine, but I have to admit I’ve never taken a picture of it. Donna Jean thought it was a hair dryer. A few of you found some guesses in the kitchen. Marji said a sprinkler, and Connie Lee was alongside that idea with a water hose. Then she also guessed light bulb. Much closer to right.
Linda said she was late to the game but she was very sure with her guess of a microphone and stand. Could have been since I’m using a microphone to narrate my book, Love Comes Home. I am reading now through some of the dramatic chapters with some sad things happening. Have you ever tried to read a story to someone while you were choked up because of what is happening in the story. These chapters have been a struggle. I don’t know how actresses do it. Cry on demand and not cry when they aren’t supposed to even if something is sad or touching.
I had fun with Paula’s and Suzanne’s guesses of a reflection in a mirror and let my mind chase down a couple of story roads in my answers to their comments. If you try, you can see stories in everything. And mysteries. I still get comments about my Hidden Springs mysteries with readers hoping something mysterious will happen in Hidden Springs again. Michael has already solved three mysteries in the quiet little town of Hidden Springs, but could there be another one? I think there could be if I was a faster writer. 🙂
But on to the guesses that were getting warmer. Paula, Lisa, Connie Rae guessed car vent. Ola guessed engine, but not what kind. Suzanne guessed a fan on an engine. Emily just said car parts which put her in the ball park for sure. Connie Lee was very warm with lightbulb, but Amy was the only one to hit it smack on the nose. A car headlight.
I showed the mystery picture to my fifteen year old granddaughter and she didn’t even have to study it to come up with headlight. So, I was afraid the photo was going to be too easy. Obviously not. My granddaughter must have been studying cars with the idea that next year she can start driving. But yes, it is the headlight on my Jeep. I was thinking about doing the grill area, but then the light jumped into view and opened up the way to more interesting guesses.
I have no doubt that this one is going to be easy, at least for some of you. But we will see.
So what is your guess on the picture up top?
Remember that a guess gets you an entry into a drawing to win a choice of one of my books. You must be at least 18 to enter, but you can get your kids to help you guess.
Thanks so much for reading.

Thank you all for your guesses. I’m so glad you’ve had fun playing my mystery photo game. I went out of town to visit my daughter the morning after I posted this last picture and didn’t have my computer with me. So I wasn’t able to respond to all of you individually, but I loved your guesses. And now I’m going to pick the winners so I can announce them in my blog post tonight.
When I enlarge it, I see dogs and maybe other animals to, but I’m stumped as I was with the headlight. It’s fun trying to guess and reading everyone’s comments!

Love that you saw dogs, Laura. I thought it looked like a dog head too.
Looks like a reflection in a puddle to me
I think it looks like some glue that was spilled.
I’m shocked I guessed right! I guess it pays to be the daughter of a mechanic. This new one looks like a small splash.
A headlight….very cool!
I think this one looks like ripples in a creek bed…or a reflection of clouds in creek water. At any rate, I see water. But maybe I’m just missing the beach. 😉
I would have never figured out that that was a headlight!
I will guess that this one is an ice cube in a glass of sweet tea?
Thanks for having this, had fun guessing!
A headlight!? Never in my wildest imagination!
First thing that came to mind on this new one is scrunched up used aluminum foil. By the way, because my husband became ill right after I finished Along a Storied Trail I have not had a chance to comment on it. However, I absolutely loved the whole book! Not a dull moment! I had a hard time putting it down. It definitely is a must read for old, young and everyone in between!!! I loved it! Hoping there will be more to follow. My sister, Becky, came for support and stayed with me for two and a half weeks. I gave the book to her. 😊

I am so glad you enjoyed my packhorse librarian book, Along a Storied Trail. It’s always good to hear that comment from a reader about not wanting to put the book down. I hope your sister will enjoy the story too, and aren’t sisters the best to help us out when things are hard.
I would have never guessed the headlight either if I hadn’t been the one to make the mystery photo. 🙂 Your guess on the new picture is very imaginative. Thanks so much for joining in with my mystery photo fun.
I think it is a puddle
