Birthday Fun

A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip! (Author Unknown)

Happy birthday to me! Love having birthdays. Don’t count them, but I love having them. My dog buddies never counted them up either. Up top here is a picture from back when I didn’t have to do the math to figure out how old I was and I could probably still count my years on my fingers but I would have had to use both hands. Be a lot of finger flashing if I had to count my years on my fingers now. After I did the math. LOL

But I was a dog lover from an early age, and Ollie was my first dog. He didn’t like strangers or even visitors that weren’t exactly strangers. He spent a lot of time chained when we had visitors and he really didn’t like it when I started dating guys. He tried his best to discourage them coming around, but my husband to be persevered.

My oldest son called me a little ago to tell me Happy Birthday and he asked if I was going to post pictures of myself the way I do of my kids and grandkids when they have birthdays. I hadn’t thought about doing that. But since it’s blogging night, I’ll post a few here. I was going to do grandkids and me, but it’s getting late and I spotted the dog pictures first. Besides, I had so many pictures I loved of the grandkids, I couldn’t decide which to pick.

So Ollie is up top. I had some more dogs in between him and Oscar who is taking a selfie with me in this picture. He was the very best dog. In my book, Love Comes Home, I have Graham missing his old coonhound dog, Poe, and remembering him as the best dog ever. In the book he has another dog, Chaucer, but he’s always saying, “He’s no Poe.” In the book the family picks that up and everything that doesn’t quite measure up starts being “no Poe.” I could say that about Oscar. I’ve had some good dogs, but none quite like Oscar.

After Oscar died of bone cancer at the too young age of seven, I found Frankie at a Humane Shelter. It was love at first sight, but I have to admit he is definitely no Oscar. But he doesn’t care. He has an enthusiasm for life and look out anyone that gets in his way. He loves people, wants to catch wild turkeys and dig up moles. He says life is good, but might be better if he could just get it to never thunder or no fireworks or no loud guns. Then, a couple of years ago Marley needed a new home and so we happily took him in. He is the sweetest little dog, but he’s getting old for a dog, going on eleven. In dog years that’s even older than me. But so far he still gamely goes walking with us and he does love his Frankie. He’s also patient when I give him a trim, but thank goodness he never looks in a mirror when I’m finished.

So there are some pictures of me to celebrate my birthday. I’ll dig out those grandkid pictures next time.

Thanks for reading. I sent out my birthday newsletter today. Check your e-mail if you think you’re on my newsletter list and sometimes unfortunately, those newsletters land in spam folders. So check that too. I’m having a book giveaway to celebrate. If you didn’t get the newsletter and would like a copy, just say so, and I’ll shoot one out to you.

  1. It’s so good to have Memorable Birthdays, isn’t it!
Whether it’s with our kids and grandkids, or with our furbabies.
But, there’s nothing like having a loving spouse by your side holding your hand, giving you all the love and support you need.
I’m so happy you still have each other!
    Happy Birthday Ann…🎂

  2. I have enjoyed seeing your older pictures and your dogs. I hope your family has treated you to a nice dinner out and you didn’t have to cook. Hope your birthday has been a memorable one and you took even more pictures so we can look back on those in a few years.

I just took a picture of my pie, Connie. My husband and I went out to dinner. None of the kids were able to come birthday celebrate with me. One family might come sometime this weekend. But it was still a good birthday. I was able to get my birthday newsletter send out. So got to mark that off my to do list.

Old pictures can be fun and set off some memories. For example, I looked at that picture of me as a kid and remembered how much I loved that black windbreaker jacket. Along with the dog, of course.

That’s great, Lucretia. I do hope you’ll enjoy my Louisville story. It has some dramatic history and a bit more romance than most of my books. I should do a blog post on its long journey to readers’ hands.

So glad you popped over to see my blog after you got my newsletter. I’ll be sure to get you name in the giveaway drawing hat.

  4. Happy Birthday, Ann! Loved your dog pics and tribute. I miss my past dogs. Most of them were people lovers. The one we have now loves only me and that makes things difficult at times.

Most of my dogs have been friendly too, Lee, except that first one and then I had a cockerspaniel that was mostly friendly but didn’t especially like kids. I had to watch him. But he did love me. Those one person dogs can be a challenge but at the same time they can really make you feel like the most important person in the world. 🙂

  5. Happy Birthday, Ann!!! Praying that you will have a blessed and beautiful day! 🥳🙏🏻🎂🎈🎁🙏🏻🥳 Love the pictures you shared to celebrate your birthday-beautiful dogs and such loving companions. 😊

  6. I enjoyed the article “Happy Birthday to Me.” I also enjoyed the photo of you and your mother. My mother did not want to live to be 100; she died at the age of 99.
I would also like to be entered in your give-away drawing. Thanks.

I’m glad you enjoyed my birthday newsletter, Dorothy and that you came by here to say hello. Your mom almost made it to 100. I hope she had a good 99 years. I’ll be sure you’re entered in the book giveaway.
