Sunrise at the Beach

The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever. ~Jacques Yves Cousteau

Did you miss me? Don’t tell me if you didn’t. 🙂 We took off for a week at Amelia Island with a couple of our kids and families. So fun to walk on the beach every morning with my daughter and enjoy the sunrises. Somehow they are always different or at least seem so when you’re out there walking along and hearing the ocean tides. There’s nothing quite like walking in wet sand with the surf kissing your toes with the sound of the shore birds in your ears while you watch the pelicans drift by. For a bonus, sometimes the waves will pitch out some treasure in front of you. We didn’t find any gold doubloons lost by pirates in days gone by, but we did find some beautiful conch shells.

Even better than the beauty of the sea and sunrise and the fun of finding shells was the mom and daughter walks each morning. Some mornings others came out to catch the early rays too. Such a blessing to get to see and hear the Lord’s majestic seas and wonder at how the moon pulls the tides in and out. That was all made better by having some of my family to enjoy it with me.

Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away. ~Sarah Kay

So I wanted to share some of the beauty of the sunrises with you after missing posting here last week. I confess that I took my computer with me, but with family around and the sunrises to enjoy and the fun of sitting on the beach watching my family play in the waves, I didn’t do much with that computer except carry it there and carry it back.

At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides and follow the sun. ~Sandy Gingras

Do you like walking on the beach? Have a favorite place to enjoy the sound of the surf?

Watch for news on my next post about a great chance to win some neat prizes and lots of books on the Fall Scavenger Hunt. I’ll tell you more on my Sunday post, but it’s going to be fun come next Friday.

  1. Hi Ann!
Pictures are beautiful. So glad you had your nice trip. It is always enjoyable to have trips with kids families along.
My husband and I went to Orange Beach one year with our son David and family. I had broken my leg the year before and couldn’t walk in the sand yet so I stayed in the condo and listened to the ocean from our balcony.
My poor husband didn’t go down much stayed with me. He loved to hear the ocean. He was such a great husband and father.
Ann what is the next book and when will we see it? Still looking to hear more about Michael and Alex .

I would love to write another Hidden Springs mystery, Gail. While my publishers aren’t on board for it, maybe I’ll get more industrious and be able to write it along with my contracted books. The problem is I’m not that fast a writer and I have to take time to enjoy some other things too – like time with family.

The next book is with the publishers and going through edits. It’s titled When the Meadow Blooms and I’ll be doing a cover reveal soon. But the book won’t release until next summer. So it will be a while.

Sounds as if you had a great husband. I agree with him. I love to hear the ocean too. But it was good that you could hear the surf from your balcony.

  2. Thanks for sharing your fabulous photos! What a wonderful way to relax–at the beach with your family members! I’m so glad you had that opportunity.

It was fun, Suzanne. My husband doesn’t really like the beach. He’s not into walking or sitting in the sun. But he was a sport and went along. He did get to be with family and we had some good food too. I liked it all, the beach and ocean more than the food. But my DIL did make French toast a couple of mornings. My favorite.

Thanks for letting me know you missed me, Marji. I appreciate that. And it was a fun time on the beach, but when you get home, there are always lots of catch-up things to do along with mountains of laundry. I don’t mind laundry though since it’s so much easier than it used to be. I did a post about that once. I need to dig it out and see if it’s a candidate for a repeat.

  3. Your photos are beautiful! Glad you got to have a fun trip with your family! It has been a long time since I have been to the beach but it was always amazing to watch the ocean waves come in and out. We still have shells that were collected years ago. One experience that I could have done without was being hit in the leg by a shark. I felt something big bump into me and got out of the water quickly. My parents didn’t believe me until a few minutes later when the lifeguards were blowing their whistles and telling everyone to get out of the water from a shark sighting. I pretty much just stayed on the sand the rest of that day! 🙂

That would be very scary, Hope. Oddly enough, my son and his wife had been on a trip to this beach earlier in the year. My son loves being in the ocean and one day as he was coming out of the water, his wife was yelling at him. Of course, with the noise of the surf he couldn’t hear her, but he looked around and a shark had ridden the waves to follow him up on the beach. He didn’t really think the shark was interested in him, but there were lots of little fish in the waves. But he wasn’t a kid. I can understand thinking it might be better to stay on the beach for a while after a shark sighting.

  4. Those are shells look beautiful. Yes, I like walking along the beach, but I like walking in the woods, too. Always nice to come upon a little stream.
