I guess I took a snow day last night before the snow actually started here in Kentucky. Whatever, I let Wednesday and most of Thursday slip by without doing a post. I could certainly claim a snow day today with about 6 or 7 inches falling since about eleven this morning. I know that’s not much for you all in those up north states but here in this middle of the country state, the snow has caused a mess. Interstates have been turned into long parking lots. The news said there was a 50 or more car pile-up on one of them. They showed pictures of trucks in various wrong positions on and off the road and some dented up cars. So far no news of fatalities although some injuries.
But the people on the roads behind those wrecks have had to sit there in their cars all afternoon and into the night. I hope they had plenty of gas when they started out. One lady said she’d started out with half a tank and was down to a quarter of a tank. She was a diabetic with no food in her car. Diabetics have to eat on schedule. Another guy walked a mile and half to a filling station to get a can of gas, a phone charger and some road snacks, he said.
Is there anywhere worse to be stuck for hours than in traffic? Ten minutes not moving can seem like an hour and an hour can drag out like five. When the news went off, the traffic was beginning to creep along. So, hoping those people got somewhere safely where they can be warm.
I’m glad to be seeing the snow from inside a warm house although I did go out walking with the dogs. I’m sure Marley would have been fine to skip the walk, but Frankie does get eager to get out the door. The snow was still coming down heavily as you can see from the pictures of the cows and Frankie. I tried to take a selfie with Marley, but he wouldn’t cooperate or maybe I didn’t want to sit down in the snow with him. I was snowy enough already. 🙂
Frankie was fine with the snow except he had to stop and chew the snow balls out from in between his foot pads every so often. Then he would be up and off running again. I don’t think he ever gets cold. He’s been in and out a dozen times since supper. Comes in snow covered and icy. I dry him off and two minutes later he’s ready to go out again to bark at something out there. I’m not sure what. Surely the coyotes are hunkered down in under the cedar trees but maybe they are playing in the snow too. The cows are staying close together but I’m thinking they should go find some cedar tree shelter too.
I hope you are somewhere dry and warm. Maybe Florida. 🙂 I like the seasons and don’t mind a little snow as long as I don’t need to go anywhere. Back when I was working as a secretary in a neighboring city and then later when I had to stay with Mom before she passed on, the snow was definitely a problem. Then I could agree with this quote from Carl Reiner.
“A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.”

I think the snow is beautiful falling and while it is new and undisturbed but I have to travel a short distance to work and do not like driving in it. My husband travels a great distance to and from his work and this is a source of much worry during the snow falls. I would be perfectly content if it did not ever snow but I try to enjoy its beauty when it does snow. I live in Eastern Kentucky and we used to have a lot more snow.

I’m with you, Laura. Snow is better if you don’t have to get out on the roads to go somewhere. It can be beautiful as it’s falling on a open area or up in the mountains. Looks as if we may get to see some more of it this weekend. This may turn out to be a snowy winter compared to the last few years.

The snow left here too last night, Sarah. Still snow at dark last night and then this morning almost all gone. I had wondered about the walkway at our little country church and how it wouldn’t be cleared of snow this morning. Just goes to show sometimes what we worry about never happens as the rain cleared that walkway for us. 🙂 So glad you enjoyed the pictures.
I’m glad I am retired and don’t have to worry about trying to get to work in the snow. I don’t mind having a little snow now, it’s pretty to watch, but I don’t want it to hang around long.

I’m with you, Connie. A snow once or twice a winter is a fine thing as long as I can stay home and not have to slide out on the roads. 🙂 And snow is much, much better than the ice we have sometimes had in the past.
When we get a dusting of snow in the Houston area where we live, everybody gets very excited and tries to make the most of it. People who grew up here have little experience with snow on the roads, etc. I had enough snow to just appreciate it from afar after living in Oklahoma and Kentucky. Of course, we have our own stressors here in our part of Texas, like flooding from hurricanes, etc.

I’m thinking a few inches of snow is better than a flood from hurricanes, Lynda. Weather related problems can come to people in all locations. Drought. Too much rain. Wildfires. Tornadoes. Hurricanes. Snowstorms. Nature is beautiful and at the same time natural weather events can be devastating disasters like the tornadoes that came through Kentucky last month.
This snow just came so fast and heavy that the road crews couldn’t keep up with keeping it off the roads. I was very glad I wasn’t one of the people trapped out on the interstates in the weather.
I do like snow but don’t get much of it in Houston, TX. What I didn’t like about snow was the danger it created on the roads and for people stranded in it.
You look very chilly in the photo of you and the cow. I feel sorry for the cows out in that weather, but your dogs need to go out regardless. At least they, and you, don’t need to stay out in the cold.

Frankie doesn’t mind the cold much, Suzanne. Last night I was ready to throttle him since he kept wanting to go outside to bark at something and then as if realizing hey it’s cold out here would want right back in. Then the cycle would repeat. That’s bad enough in the daytime, but in the middle of the night, he was not my favorite doggie. And the cows do fine out in the weather as long as they get some fresh hay and the ice broken to get a drink. They put on heavy winter coats just like dogs and other animals. Although they probably were glad to see the sunshine again today.

We lived in CT for 10 years, in the woods at the top of Rattlesnake Mountain. We often lost power during large snowstorms the longest 5 days. When the power was out, so was our water, we had a well. We learned early on to fill the tubs with water ahead of the storm so we could use a bucket to flush toilets. We had a large wood stove so our family room was toasty and I cooked as best I could on the stove. The woods were exquisitely iced with snow and the kids loved following animal tracks. But I sooo appreciated having hot showers, running water, cooking on an electric stove when the power was restored! A good life lesson in gratefulness!

We usually don’t lose power unless we have an ice storm, Bonnie, but one time our power was off 5 days. Mostly due to human error in our case as someone trying to help out with the power lines who worked for the electric company but not usually on the lines turned the transformer switch the wrong way. Oops. We did heat with a woodstove then and I cooked on it and best of all was able to heat water for my hot tea. But everything I would think about doing would be something that needed electricity. 🙂 Thank goodness for books. We do need to learn to be grateful for those everyday conveniences and blessings.
I loved reading your post and seeing your pictures! I love watching snow fall and blanket the ground. It has such a freshness to it. A rip- roaring fire makes a fine complement to an all-day snow storm, though, doesn’t it? Our little 4 month old pup sure enjoyed the fluffy stuff, and he was fun to watch too. Luckily for us, too, we could stay put and avoid driving in it. Have a very happy ’22 everyone!

So glad you enjoyed the post, Amy. I do miss my woodstove on days like this. There isn’t anything warmer than a wood fire. I have a little great niece who got to see her first snow today. The pictures of her were very cute as she looked entranced by the snow. I think she’s about 8 months old, maybe nine months.

I love snow….as long as I am inside watching it! I do, however, worry about my kids and others who have to drive to work in it! It was more exciting when I was younger to go out sledding and snowmobiling in it but I am past that now. I live in southern Wisconsin and we’ve had very little snow thus far as it seems to have gone south! Stay safe everyone!

I’d be quite happy for it to slide back north, Diana. 🙂 I don’t mind one snow a year, but that’s enough. Of course, by Sunday it’s supposed to be near fifty here and raining. At least with snow the fields aren’t so muddy to walk in. Kentucky pretty much shut down of this snowstorm, but I’m just as glad I don’t have to try to drive anywhere in it. There are compensations to getting older, I guess. LOL
I love snow. It reminds me of the song “Whiter Than Snow”; and it reminds me of my mom who would make snow cream for us.

My mother used to make snow cream too, Mary. I was never a big fan of it, but my dad loved it. And this snow was very white.
I love snow also. Living now in north East Maryland, we have been by passed by storms telling us we were going to get large amounts. It didn’t hi. We had a light dusting on Tuesday. Tonight we are to get anywhere from 2 to 6 inches. We will see tomorrow. They say this is a fast moving storm. I don’t have to leave for work anymore, but if it does snow, I will be walking around in it.

I enjoy walking in the snow, Dusti, but it was cold this morning. When we walked later this afternoon, it was still only 15 degrees but didn’t feel all that cold especially after the sun came out. That sun on fresh snow always makes everything beautiful. But the dogs and I tracked up a lot of pristine fields. 🙂
I love snow! We got almost 7 inches here.I love watching it fall.I was glad that we got daytime snow so we could see it fall. It’s easy to love if you don’t have to leave the house.I didn’t get over 10 feet away from my house since the first flake this morning.
After saying all that I will have to say that even though snow is pretty and exciting, I still love Summer best.

The snow did fall fast and furious, Lisa. When I was walking it was like being in a snowglobe. And today with the sun making an appearance the pristine snow is sparkling white. But I am glad I didn’t have to be out on the road. Being trapped on the interstate the way so many were, had to be awful and very frustrating.
