The almost surprised look that death had frozen on his face didn’t matter now. What mattered was why the man was there on the Hidden Springs Courthouse steps where folks didn’t get murdered. At least never until tod ay. (From Murder at the Courthouse)
Only two more mystery photos for this Mystery Photo Game including the one here. That’s probaby good since it’s hard to find a mystery under every bush or in every picture.
But I’ve always loved mysteries. That is, the kind you read. Reading Hardy Boy mysteries convinced me to try to write my own mystery when I was nine or ten. I’ve been writing something ever since. Not that many mysteries though, except for my Hidden Springs mysteries which are considered cozy mysteries. However, I have often included a little mystery or suspense in some of my other stories even though they aren’t caterogized as mysteries and shouldn’t be. But The Innocent had some mystery there in my Harmony Hill Shaker village. One of the story threads in Words Spoken True was about a serial killer. That qualifies as mystery, I would think, and ended with some suspenseful scenes. Smmer of Joy, my third Hollyhill book definitely has a bit of suspense and mystery. You could even say there are some mystery whispers in my new book, When the Meadow Blooms.
So why not a bit of mystery in my photo game here, One Writer’s Journal? I do appreciate all of you who have come by to give my mystery photos the eye and imagine what it might be. I actually thought last Sunday’s photo might be too easy, but none of you guessed it. At least not exactly. Many of you thought it looked like blue jeans. Some others thought it was something crocheted, perhaps washcloths, oven mits, a sweater or shelf-liner. Shelf liner? Do people really crochet those? A few thought of rugs. On the other end of the spectrum, there were some guesses of lace, a doily, or the edge of a curtain. I had to smile at Loretta’s idea of a handmade rug from Amish dresses. It was blue and often Amish dresses are blue. Imaginative guess but I don’t know any Amish people to give me their old dresses. Plus, I would never get a rug made. Joan stayed in current day time with her face mask guess.
While many of you recognized it was some kind of material, only one of you got closer than that. Lucretia guessed a belt of a sash. That’s not exactly right but nearly so.
I started out thinking I would do the gloves. I even cropped the picture to make a close up, but in the process I saw a bit of Frankie’s leash that I drape around my neck when I walk him and Marley.
Marley’s leash is there too, but I rarely have to leash him. I did some this spring whenever I thought he might get too close to the cows. Unfortunately, Marley can no longer hear. So, he can’t hear if a cow is heading toward him and I can’t call him back . After one of the cows rolled him this year and did her best to kill him or would have if I hadn’t been close enough to scream and come to Marley’s rescue, I have made sure he doesn’t get too close to cows.
But Frankie has run away across to the neighbors without listening to me tell him to stop several times. He gives me a glance back over his shoulder and runs faster when I yell at him. So, he gets leashed in the front field and then I let him run loose once we get away from the temptation of the neighbors’ yards.
This picture was late in spring on one of those too cold for the time of year days and I took the picture to post on Facebook to show it was still glove wearing weather. That smile I’ve got seems to be saying I tricked you with this picture, but I wasn’t even thinking about mystery photos when I took it. But I won’t say that I’m not smiling. Frankie too. LOL
So what’s your guess on the picture up top?

Possibly the inside of a honeycomb or the underneath side of a mushroom?

I’ve already revealed the rest of the photo on Sunday night’s post, Linda Dianne, but I’ve thrown your name in my giveaway drawing hat for this guess. Thanks for playing.
I have another guess for this photo, a wet soapy sponge? Not sure if guessing twice is against the rules. Hope you’ve been having a sweet Sabbath, everyone!

Only one entry per picture, but guess as many times as you want, Jolynn. Love all the guesses. That first guess about the underside of a slug… Well, I have to tell you I hate slugs. 🙂 So the soapy sponge might be a more possible guess. Not right, but more possible. 🙂
I think it is something pertaining to nature …..but I am not sure what !!!

Nature is a pretty good guess when it comes to my mystery pictures, Nancy, but it isn’t always.
Honeycomb cereal in milk

What a great guess, Robin. Love it. It’s not right, but I love it.
I made a comment about your picture and it returned stating
I had already made that comment. It was the first time I had submitted any comments about this game. .?? I tried it again and had same results.

No worries, LaVerne. I did get your first message. Sometimes the computer is just slow to show them. I’m glad you stopped by to give your guess. Well, your “I don’t know” anyway. 🙂 Thank you for your kind comment about my photo taking, but I just point and shoot. And hope it comes out nicely.
I have no idea what this is but you are good with your camera, it has a lot of depth in the picture.
Cross-section of a bell pepper. 🫑

I’ve got your guess noted, Carole. Thanks for giving it a try. Love the little picture of the pepper in your comment. 🙂
It does look like a paper wasp’s nest.

Those wasp nest do have a lot of little tunnels, Birdie.

Ola, I do like looking deep into flowers and have been known to take close-ups of those flowers. So you could be right. Maybe. Maybe now.
Amy – I like your guess of coral and I’m happy you think it’s fun to guess. The game wouldn’t be much fun for me if nobody took part by trying to figure out the mystery photos. So, thank you.
Sandra – A honeycomb is a popular guess, but you are the first with the loofah. Just that word makes me want to smile.
Linda – Your desperate guess made me smile. Well, not the guess. A toad might look like that. No the desperate part was what has me smiling. I’m glad you gave the mystery photo some thought, but I do have to tell you that no one else has guessed a toad. Then, it could be that they are all wrong and you are right, couldn’t it?
Emily – That’s an interesting guess. Made me think of how after you sit on a chair like that when you’e wearing shorts I used yto take off my bobby socks when I got home from school and there was always a neat pattern on the top of my foot.
Kim S – Furnace filter. Love it. You were thinking outside the box and then garlic close is a great guess too. We’ll see if either is right on Sunday.
Connie – A few have guessed mushroom. Bone and shell are good guesses too. There are some old cow bones out in the field and I’ve picked up plenty of shells on trips to the beach. So could be.
bn100 – The bones out here are old and not too disgusting. But maybe still too disgusting for me to take a picture. Or who knows? I get desperate sometimes hunting up mystery photos. 🙂
Jacinda – A wasp nest is a great guess. A few others have agreed with you on that’s what it could be, and it could be you are the ones who are right while everybody else is wrong. Could be.
Karen – You’re right in there with Paula and Lee with the morel mushroom guess. We’ll see is you are right come Sunday when I reveal the rest of the picture.
Is it the under side of a Slug? Or the inside of your dog’s nose?
I think it’s a close up of a morel mushroom!
It looks like a wasp nest to me
bone cartilage – kind of gross
