I’m sorry I’m late posting the last installment of my Random Line Game. I know this is Thursday and not Wednesday, but I’ve been off the grid up in a little of the Appalachian area Aunt Perdie loved here in Kentucky. I had a few days to enjoy the beauty of the hills with the fall decorated trees covering the hillsides. Here’s one of the photos I took looking down toward the Cumberland River.
Every fall for the past fifteen or so years (except that better forgotten year of 2020,) my husband and I have gone on a family trip with his siblings and spouses to enjoy some time together to share stories and grandkid pictures. We rent a house where we enjoy our shared cooking talents, play some games, and laugh a lot. We have so much fun having a few uninterrupted days to strengthen those family ties.
I did take my computer with every intention of posting something, but those internet signals can get weak when you head off into the wilderness. That wasn’t so bad. Sometimes it’s nice to be unconnected. So that’s why I’m late with the post this week. I could have gotten it ready to go before I left, but that didn’t happen. Too busy doing everything else. Our preacher preached at me last Sunday about how everybody needs a quiet time. Maybe my days away were a quiet time in a way even though we were everything but quiet as we visited together. Of course, one of my sisters-in-law and I did go walking up and down some hills. Some of those hills were so steep that panting was all the noise we were making. LOL.
But back to Aunt Perdie and the Random Line Game. Many of you nailed the answer last week. Hope even opened her book to the very page where I’d found the random line in Along a Storied Trail. It was the scene where Coralee showed up at Perdita Sweet’s door in a snowstorm.
Eight of you got it right and Connie guessed it even though she hadn’t even read the story. She needs to, don’t you think? But I think she might of have peeked at everybody else’s answers. Nancy was the first to get the answer and she seemed very sure. So, I’m thinking she wasn’t just guessing, but remembered about Aunt Perdie and Coralee too.
Coralee was one of those unexpected characters who sometimes show up in my stories. Aunt Perdie was sort of that way too. Oh, I had Perdita Sweet’s name on my character list before I started writing. I knew she was going to be an old mountain woman who might give Tansy, my book woman, trouble. I didn’t know she was going to push her cat off her lap, get up out of her rocking chair and become such a big part of the story. I really didn’t know how much I was going to enjoy writing from the viewpoint of a cranky old spinster. Hmm, not sure what that tells about me. LOL.
Coralee turned out to have an important part in the story too. That’s sometimes how the creative process goes. One idea leads to another idea and somehow the story grows and embraces each character.
Thanks to all of you who have played this new game with me. As Lisa said in one of her comments, it’s not that easy a game. But I hope you found it fun.
Are you ready for the last random line? Might be another easy one. We’ll see.
That child was going to be hard to shut out of his heart.
Since I’m a day late posting this, I’m going to extend the deadline for entries to midnight Saturday, October 29, 2022. That should give you time to post your comments of your idea of which book had this particular line.
Kentucky Book Festival – October 29, 2022 – 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Oh, and if you’re in the Lexington, KY area, the Kentucky Book Festival is this Saturday at the JosephBeth Booksellers. You can read all about the 150 or so authors who are going to be there with tables full of books and eager to talk to readers. Here’s where you can find out more. Kentucky Book Festival.
Lots of great activities for kids too. In fact, according to the information on the Festival’s website, each child 12 years old and under who attends the book festival is eligible to receive a voucher for one free book to take home! If you take an eligible child to the festival you have to ask a book festival volunteer inside the Children’s Authors Tent to get a voucher for the free book that will only be redeemable on Saturday, October 29th. Supply is limited, but what fun that would be for a kid to be able to pick out a book to take home with him or her.
If you do make it to the Festival, I hope you’ll stop by my book table to say hi. I’d love to see you.
And now, I’m ready for those random line guesses.

Thanks to all of you who have been playing this game. It wasn’t the easiest one I’ve come up with, but it’s been fun for me to try to grab a line that at least hints at the story it came from. That doesn’t mean it might not fit into other stories too. I’ve loved all your guesses and your “knows” too.
I’ll pick the winners Sunday.
I will say Angel Sister.
When the Meadow Blooms. I’m not sure on this one, but it really sounds like a random line that would have come from this story.

You know picking one line out of thousands of lines does make this game very challenging for you readers. I hope you’ve had fun pondering the line and wondering which book might suit it best.
Good thinking on this one, Connie.
When the Meadow Blooms! Love the pictures of the river and it looks so Beautiful So glad you enjoyed your outing with your Family They are the best memories to make! Have a Blessed weekend!

Glad you enjoyed my vacation picture, Sarah. The trees were lovely. A lot of oaks and maples in that area that were putting on a show. It is good to take time to make some good family memories.
You sound pretty sure about your guess. Could be you have reason. 🙂
I can’t recall but love all of your books, my favorite was Road to Redemption, but that isn’t my guess.

I do appreciate you reading my books, Donna Jean. You picked a good favorite. The kernel of truth that led to my story, Road to Redemption, was truly an inspiring story of self-denial and service to others.
Along a Storied Trail. Loved the book. Dearly loved Aunt Perdie!
When The Meadow Blooms
I have no idea how my post above showed up here.

I can remove it if you want, Gin. But fun that you mentioned your favorite book cover and your fondness for Perdita Sweet. She was a great character.
It doesn’t matter. Just leave it, Ann. It’s the truth. You created a real keeper in Perdita.
A great line that may fit most any of your books, but I’ll go with When the Meadow Blooms
I am hoping it is from When The Meadow Blooms. Thank you for sharing about your time with family and the Lord up on that mountain. Sounds like a place to feel even closer to God and his majestic works.

It was a beautiful area near Lake Cumberland, Pamela. We never drove down to the lake but just stayed in our hide-away cabin and enjoy family time.
That might be a pretty good guess about this random line. Maybe.
I’m thinking When the Meadow Blooms but wonder if you’re tricking us with a too-obvious answer so I’ll make a wild guess and say Angel Sister. It’s so nice that you and your family can get away together. Thanks for sharing that lovely photo. I remember also seeing some of your photos from last year or maybe it was a previous year. Anyway I’ve enjoyed seeing the photos and reading about your get-aways.

I don’t know why you think I’d be so tricky, Lee. 🙂 It must be that Mystery Photo Game we play here now and then. I do try to be tricky then. Angel Sister is a nice guess though. There is a little girl in the story, but then, there’s a little girl in several of my stories, including When the Meadow Blooms.
Glad you enjoyed the picture of some of the scenery from our trip. It was a beautiful area and that day the weather was very nice. Sort of like today here in Kentucky.
When the Meadow Blooms
I have enjoyed all your books that I have read. Looking forward to the next one.

So glad that you’ve given some of my books a try, Marlene, and that you’ve liked the stories. I hope you’ll like In the Shadow of the River when you get a chance to read it next May.
When the Meadow Blooms
I am not sure on this last line. I feel like When the Meadow Blooms would be a fair guess, but I am thinking not the right one. It has been fun guessing and will probably get some of us picking up these stories to read again or for the first time. Glad you had a nice time with your family making more special memories.

I’ve had fun with this new game too, Hope. I’m glad you thought so too. And if it entices some readers to give one of my books a try for the first time or for a re-read, that would be great.
We did have a great time sitting around doing nothing but talk. Well, and play cards and eat now and then. 🙂
I’m too old to remember all the details from all of your books, so I’m going to guess When the Meadow Blooms and that it was the male relative who owned the meadow and allowed his brother’s wife and two daughters to live with him.
I love all your contests, Ann, and all your books!

I’m too old to remember all the details from my books, Suzanne. 🙂 But sounds as if you remembered a few details from When the Meadow Blooms.
I’m glad you enjoy the games I come up with to have a little fun with book giveaways. I’m even happier that you read my stories. Thank you for that.
Might be Scent of Lilacs.
I’ll guess River of Redemption.
