The last time always seems sad, but it isn’t really. The end of one thing is only the beginning of another. ~Laura Ingals Wilder, These Happy Golden Years

Thanks to those of you who have dropped in here during the month of December when so much is sometimes going on with Christmas gatherings, special church services, and maybe new books to read. I did get a book under my Christmas tree and I took a little while last night to open it up and start reading. If you are a reading friend who has checked into One Writer’s Journal the last few weeks, you know I’m having an End of the Year Book Giveaway. You have one more chance to throw your name in my giveaway drawing hat by leaving a comment on this last post before the end of the year and before I pick the three winners by random. The winners win their choice of one of my books. If you’ve entered on previous posts, a comment on this post gets you another entry.

For this last 2022 post, I’m sharing a few of the quote graphics my publishers designed for several of my books. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to pick the graphic that might make you want to pick up that particular book. (Can you tell I used to like watching “Mission Impossible?” Not much was impossible for that cast. LOL) Even if you’ve already read the stories, you can look at the quotes with a critical eye  to pick the one you think might be most effective at pulling in a new reader. And if you haven’t read the stories, you can do the same.

So here goes. Of course the one up top is from my most recent novel, When the Meadow Blooms.  The ones below are from various different books. You can see the titles of the books at the bottom of the graphics.

That’s a variety of choices. So choose the one you think might pull a reader into a story and leave the name of the book (at the bottom of the graphics) to have an entry in my End of the Year Book Giveaway. I’ll pick the winners this weekend and notify them by email. Then I’ll share their first names here next year or Sunday whichever way you want to look at it. 🙂 Can you believe 2023 is almost here? So blessings for the New Year and thanks for making my giveaways such fun.

And always, always, thanks for reading!

  1. Funny how no one chose Murder Comes By Mail. I really liked that series. A friend and I were discussing Y2K today. YES we are old!!!! LOL!! I really don’t understand why there was such panic about the turning of the year, the Century, at the time. It is simply the next minute on a clock, the next day on our man made calendars. Wishing for change because the minute changed us from one year to the next, to me makes no sense. To me the fact that I was sicker than sick was more of a concern. (That night was the very last time I had the flu!!! It seemed to give me some immunity.) I do say Happy New Year because I hope that it is just that for all, improbable as it may be! 🙂 I will quote Tiny Tim, “God Bless us, everyone!”

It’s not a bad thing to add on a few years, Marjorie. I remember that Y2K craziness too. Some people thought everything was going to crash because the year changed from 1999 to 2000. But the best I remember most things went from December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000 without much bother. Took me forever to start writing 2000 on my checks. You still used checks back then or at least some of us did. So glad you didn’t carry the flu over to the new century. It’s rampant around here now, but although I had a cold, so far I’ve escaped the flu.

I’m glad you liked going to Hidden Springs for a few mysteries. I enjoyed writing that series too and thought I picked out an enticing quote. 🙂 But it’s interesting seeing all the different picks.

Wishing you good health and much joy in 2023.

  2. I’ve read and enjoyed all of these books but find the quote from An Appalachian Summer appealing. It would make me wonder what Truda thought was an idiotic dream. Was it hers or someone else’s? I also really like the photo with the cabin in the woods.

It is a nice background picture, Pam. One person’s idiotic dream might be another person’s happiest dream or worst nightmare. But if I remember correctly, and I guess I should since I wrote it but I don’t always, it was Truda’s idiotic dream.

Thank you so much for reading my stories. I do appreciate that so much.

  3. These are all good quotes and graphics! But my choice is sweet Adria from River To Redemption. That quote tugged at my heart.
That’s also one of my favorite books.

  4. Tie between Appalachain Summer and When the Meadow Blooms. I find so many of your thoughts and statements so intriguing — just love how you word them.

  5. “Every person should be allowed one idiotic dream in her lifetime”
This statement by Truda in An Appalachian Summer really intrigued me — so much so that I’ve now added that title to my list of your books that I’d like to read next. (Also on my list are Words Spoken True, Murder Comes by Mail, and the third Murder book, whose title I can’t quite remember right now. Plus, I’m eagerly waiting for your book coming out in the spring of 2023, which I’ve already pre-ordered.)

I suppose I picked the right quote from that book to make you curious about the story, Roberta. I hope you’ll like learning more about Truda and the other characters when you get a chance to read the story. It’s fun that you have several of my other stories on your TBR list. That makes me smile. The third Hidden Springs Mystery book is Murder Is No Accident. And thank you so much for pre-ordering In the Shadow of the River. I appreciate that a bunch.

  6. I like Truda’s quote from an Appalachian Summer. I haven’t read this book, but this quote makes me want to go to Amazon RIGHT NOW and read the blurb on this book. (Yes, I’m going to do it!) Maybe I like this quote, too, is because a lot of my dreams are idiotic in others’ eyes. Hmmm…. This quote will make me ponder on a few things this evening. Thanks!

That’s fun, Susan. But then I like pondering on things. I’m pondering on a lot of things as I’m on story roads like what happens next. And why and what will that make happen and… Well, you get the idea.

I’m glad my quote about Truda’s idiotic idea caught your interest. Truda was one of those characters I didn’t exactly plan for her to have such a part in the story but then I suppose one of my idiotic ideas followed another and Truda was a great part of that story.

  7. Many great quotes but I think the quote from The Refuge is especially intriguing! “I kept my baby a secret as long as I could” raises so many questions and offers so many possibilities!
    Happy New Year!
