One of the fun things about having a new book about to release is sharing a few graphics of quotes from the book. Since you know I write inspirational fiction, you might be surprised that one of my characters in this story is a riverboat gambler and that, as Lisbeth says, he’s the answer to prayers. Kelly turns out to be an okay character who does turn out to be an answer for some of the problems Lisbeth and Irena face. Sometimes the Lord works in mysterious ways his purposes to perform.
But as Lisbeth goes on to say, life can be a gamble in many ways. In my story, In the Shadow of the River, some happenings do seem to be a gamble or perhaps just a matter of choices. We always hope we make the right choices but at times, we don’t. Of course, we have ways to help us make right choices including prayer, advice from family and friends and sometimes our own good sense that says one way is better than another way.
In my story, people do make wrong choices. Some characters don’t have the choices to make but are instead put on hard courses by the choices others make. As you know, a novel has to have conflict and those wrong choices can be how conflict happens.
Jacci, my main character, is only five at the beginning of the story. Later, the story jumps to when she’s twenty and an actress on the Kingston Floating Palace Showboat. At five, she isn’t making the choices that will shadow her life. At twenty, she’s ready to make the choice to look for answers and see what’s in the shadows. Will that choice be a gamble for her?
I know some readers have already received my books in the mail, but there is still time to get the special deal at Baker Book House if you do it right away. After the book officially releases on May 9th, the discount on the book will change to 30%. Still not bad, but 40% is better. Plus that free U.S. shipping.
I look forward to what you think about the story. Some reviews are already showing up like this one from the Historical Novel Society.
Have you faced challenging choices?

God does use the most unexpected things and people to bring honor to His name. This week my son and I watched the George Foreman movie–a case in point. Despite his mother’s apprehensions about his making a career of fighting, God used his boxing to first, bring him into a life-changing relationship with Jesus, and then to glorify His name.
I feel anyone who has lived on this earth has faced challenging choices at one time or another. Some I feel have been the right choices while others have not been. But such is life. I think all-in-all I am living a better life and I feel that I am much closer to God than ever before which is wonderful! I can’t wait for your book to arrive so I dive into it. P
