My theory on housework is, if the item doesn’t multiply, smell, catch fire, or block the refrigerator door, let it be. No one else cares. Why should you? ~Erma Brombeck
The last few weeks have been a little busy for me. Well, maybe a lot busy. Whenever I say that I always remember this quote I came across a few years ago.
It is not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about? ~Henry David Thoreau
I understand, maybe, what Thoreau is saying, but let’s give those ants some credit. They are busy about doing something that needs doing. Something that will keep them alive. Now, if he had said grasshoppers, that would have been a whole different vibe. Of course, he was trying to tell us to keep our mind on higher and more important things than just following a trail of other ants to an anthill. At least, that’s what I think he meant. It could be I should do more research on that.
However, for me, I sometimes get so busy that some things get put off and then it’s time to play catch-up. The busy things these last few weeks have been necessary and sometimes fun activities. I had to find the final scene for my current work in progress to write those good words “the end.” I had to do a bunch of shouting out about my new release, The Song of Sourwood Mountain, that had a book birthday on May 7th. (More on that below.) Thanks so much to those of you who have read or are reading the story and for your encouraging words about the story.
Then, I took off for Michigan to enjoy the Fiction Readers Summit. So much fun! See, it’s extra good when some of the busyness of life is fun. My daughter went with me, did most of the driving, and made the gathering even better. She enjoyed meeting the other authors and readers and getting a new load of books to read. I enjoyed the same. Loved making new friends and catching up with those writers and reading friends I had met before. You should hear a bunch of authors and readers when they get together. The place is noisy with talk and laughter.
The picture here is a panel I was on with other authors, Bethany Turner, Carrie Turansky, Jamie Ogle, and Susan L. Tuttle. They should have never given me the microphone. LOL
But now I’m back home. My daughter has headed back to her house. It’s time for me to play catch-up. I still have 70+ messages from my newsletter readers. I want to let those who send me messages know how much I like hearing from them. I’ve made many on-line friends who share news with me after I share news with them. Plus, there is the chance to win a prize or a book. So, I will do my best to catch-up on messages and internet posts.
Here are a couple of shout-outs about The Song of Sourwood Mountain. First, Ada June shows up on Fresh Fiction to answer some questions. Ada June shares about some of the going ons of Sourwood Mountain. She followed up Mira doing an interview on Novel PASTimes. The last one is all about what happens on a Writer’s Desk, an interview with Tricia Goyer. This one has a giveaway chance. She’s giving away 3 copies of The Song of Sourwood Mountain.
“In our frenzied attempts to catch up with life, we run right past it. Once we have run past it, what we are in reality attempting to catch is ourselves.” ~Craig D. Lounsbrough
Have you ever been away a few days and come home to find a zillion things, give or take a few, need doing?

My to do list is never ending so whether I go away for a few days or not there is always something that needs to be done. I have days that I call my fire fighting days where I put out as many little fires (to dos that can get done quickly) as I can. Those are good days as it seems that I get so much done.

That’s a good plan, Becky. I think I need a “to do” day that just says READ all day. 🙂
Of course! Re your list of things to deal with (or not), I would add : If it is not a trip hazard!

That’s a good addition, Lynda. Got to keep the walking trails clear and those stairsteps.
